It is the fourth part of our experiment. In this experiment, we ran tests on the various objects with similar color background. Previously, all the images tested had contrasting colors. The reason we selected similar color background is that the selection of subjects becomes very tough when you want to automate the background removing technique. But, all the automated tools may not be the same. So, this in our opinion is the best option to really test what the automated tools offer.
This experiment is also a part of our series of content. We here have tried to knock out the background of some images using Adobe Photoshop manually and also three online image backgrounds removing tools such as Auto Clipping, Background Burner, and Clipping Magic. So, let’s dig deep to see which performs better, Manual vs. Automated.
We have taken an advantage of comparing and contrasting with one another. These online tools provide us shocking experiences. And we have discussed it here. We have written a review based on our experience of using Photoshop and the three automated online tools mentioned earlier.
(Shapes like boxes and round objects)
Similar Color Background:
Firstly, we have taken a photo of mobile with same color background. Removing background from such an image is not easy automatically and that’s why, we select this image so that we can test these tools.
We upload the image in autoclipping.com tool and try to remove same color background. We use two red and green manual tools for selecting the foreground and the background color. The red one is for selecting background and on the contrary, the green is for selecting your objects. Anyway, we drag these tools and automatically it removes background.
The above attached photo is the outcome of the online automated tool. We are requesting you to have a look on the image at basic shaped object. You can feel the problems. Though it removes background well, it also ruins the resolution, curves, edges, and shape of mobile. It is looking unreal, funny, and the work of a kid. Besides, it breaks its promises of automation, because it is also providing some tools for working manually.

Next, we have uploaded this image on Background Burner for removing backdrop of this same image. Here, we face a burning dragon which burns the background. But, it cannot do the job properly, rather it ruins the shape and resolution. It also destroys the edge, curves, shadows, and in some places, it cannot remove the background. Amazingly, it is saying of automation, but it also provides retouch options that break the commitment.

Then, we have applied Clippingmagic automated tool for removing the background from the same photo of the basic shaped object. It works better than the other two tools. It maintains resolution and shadows nicely, but it fails to remove background completely. Some portions still you can see in the background that is not fulfilling the purpose.
Score for Clippingmagic: 53%

Being frustrated with these so-called automated tools, we tried to cut out the background in Photoshop by hand. We opened the same image in Photoshop, created path with Pen tool around the image, make a selection, and delete the background. We also apply white background and shadow carefully. And thus we got the perfect photo as we desired manually. See the above image where you will get perfect resolution, shadow, curves, edge, pixels or holes, etc. It seems to us that Manual photo editing in Photoshop is the best tool rather than any online automatic tool.
The score for Manual Photo Editing: 80%

Conclusion: Though automated image editing tools can do jobs faster, they cannot achieve the desired quality of the photos especially for removing the background. Whereas, the same job in photoshop is being completed with full quality. This tool removes background and if needs, you can use it for further retouching photos, no matter the types and shapes of images. Whatever you want, you can do in Photoshop, but the automatic tools cannot do so, even they fail what they are made for.
